5 Questions With Natacha

Without further ado, let’s ask Natacha some questions about her career and her advice for junior and aspiring models!

1. Can you share a memorable moment from your career that significantly impacted your journey as a model?

A memorable moment in modelling for me might be the first time I did a beach shoot (back in 2018).

I had struggled with body image and being self-conscious before this, but this shoot was a moment in time that really helped me love myself and love the idea of modelling much more.

2. What do you believe has been the key to your success in becoming a sought-after model in the industry?

Honestly, when I first started out it was very much a “right place right time” moment, but I firmly believe that anyone can be photogenic and be a model. It all comes down to confidence!

You’ve got to be confident in front of a camera, otherwise it can be quite daunting!

However, that confidence will come through experiences. I did a lot of “trade for” work when I started out to get the experience, find my style and understand how to compose myself in front of a camera and it helped a lot. I worked with a lot of experienced photographers who kindly gave me pointers on my strong suits and even areas to work on. Critique is never a bad thing as long as it’s done well 🙂

I’d also say that finding good photographers is key – and when I say that I mean find photographers whose work inspires you. I’ve been very lucky to have worked with photographers who I’ve clicked with instantly and we shared a vision, making our projects effortless and – more importantly – fun!

3. What advice would you give to aspiring models on handling the pressures and expectations of being in the spotlight?

I know it’s a cliche thing to say but be true to yourself.

Never let an agency or photographer, or anyone, push you beyond your limits. Also I think knowing your “niche” can be handy!

For me I am aware I have “striking” eyes and I know this is what has drawn a lot of photographers to me.

I also think it’s important to research any photographers before making official plans, I like to try to understand their style and take inspiration.

It also prepares you for what they may ask of you!

E.g. if you only want to do fashion, but a photographer who does a lot of boudoir and lingerie reaches out, you must be firm in what your levels are.

4. What role does personal branding play in your career, and how have you cultivated your brand over the years?

Honestly I like to be varied! I love portraiture with big smiles, but I also love doing something a bit more edgy with darker themes appealing to me – but I know this doesn’t work for everyone!

I would say I let my personality come through in my work. I like to be seen as approachable, so I guess that’s my branding 🙂

5. How do you prepare for high-profile photo shoots and fashion shows to ensure you deliver your best performance?

I tend to accept bookings that are more along the lines of portfolio work but for any shoot I do, I like to have a bit of back and forth with the photographer.

I want to know what the theme is, what inspired them when they saw my work, what colours do they want to see me in, what makeup/hair look am I going for.

Basically, I like to be prepared!

If a photographer gives me free rein that’s awesome, and I’m very good at taking the lead with styling and looks etc., but I’m a sucker for detail at heart and I want to make sure I do my best work and give my all!

Regarding fashion shows, I haven’t done these for a while! Gosh! But the main thing I would say is to practice ‘the walk’, and dress rehearsals are a must!!

I personally felt a lot more prepared, and relaxed, when I’d done lots of practice in the shoes I’d be wearing on the night. It may be a short time you’re up there but I think – again – it’s important to look confident.

Thank you Natacha
