Before You Apply to a Modelling Agency
Most new models make the same mistake. They apply to agencies with no useful images and hope potential alone carries the application. Sometimes it might. Usually, it does not help.
You can apply to some agencies with simple digitals, but clean starter portfolio images can give you more confidence and better material to use while waiting for responses. Agencies do not need glamour. They need to see your face, proportions, natural look, expression, posture and how you present on camera.

New models often confuse digitals and portfolio photos. They are not the same thing, and pretending they are is a quick way to build a portfolio that looks busy but says very little.

Teen shoots need clear communication, parent involvement and professional boundaries. Parents are welcome, outfit comfort matters and the model can say no to any outfit, pose, concept or image use.

What to Wear for a Modelling Portfolio Shoot
Keep the foundation simple. The goal is to show you clearly, not bury you under styling. Clothes should support the image, not become the lead actor.
- Clean base outfit: fitted jeans, plain tee, tank, simple shirt or neutral separates.
- Commercial look: relaxed, friendly and easy to imagine in lifestyle or brand work.
- Fashion look: something slightly stronger with shape, texture or mood.
- Fitness or lifestyle look: only if it supports your portfolio goals.
- Avoid: big logos, loud prints, poor fit, wrinkled clothes and heavy styling that distracts from you.

Online vs Printed Portfolios
Most models need a clean online portfolio first. It is easier to share, easier to update and usually more practical for agency applications, castings and client submissions.
Printed portfolios still have value for some in-person meetings, castings and professional contexts, but beginners should not obsess over print before they even have strong images. Start with a tight digital set. Add print when it has a purpose.
